Michel McClamrock Van Devender is the creator and voice behind Black House Blue Sky. She is a wife, mom, artist, designer, stylist and self-proclaimed creative junkie. Michel is happiest with her feet planted on the ground and her head in the clouds. Black House Blue Sky is a reference to this preferred state and Michel’s own modern black house – a solid foundation, the rooted black house, projecting into the endless possibilities of the optimistic blue sky.
No straight and narrow paths, please! Michel’s desire to learn, sense of curiosity and ability to adapt have allowed her to explore a wide range of careers and creative interests. She worked professionally in the interior design industry for over fifteen years before shifting gears to explore new, creative endeavors. Although her multidisciplinary interests have lead her down many paths, all roads lead back to her love for art, design, home and family. Black House Blue Sky was born out of Michel’s desire to share her passion for cultivating a stylish, well-loved, soulful life. Whether designing her home interiors, preparing a favorite family meal, sharing travel destinations or curating content to share, Michel approaches life with style, grace, gratitude and attitude. Through her visual lens and unique aesthetic, she hopes to inspire others to live a beautiful life they love.
Michel lives in Charlotte, NC, with her husband, three boys and their French Bulldog. Most days, you’ll find her at her black house wrangling boys, painting, rearranging furniture, writing a blog post, designing her next house, experimenting in the kitchen AND spending way too much time on Pinterest and Instagram!
